Gloucester Rugby sign experienced Scarlets player Thomas
Nigel Davies, the Director of Rugby at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club Gloucester Rugby has added the experience of Aled Thomas for his half back options next season after he clinched the signing of the Scarlets star ahead of the new season.
Thomas, still only 29 years old, is a former Rugby Sevens World Cup winner and he also scored the winning try against the Argentine team in the final back in 2009 and is currently playing in his second stint with the Welsh region.
He joined Scarlets first back in 2004 before moving on to clubs like the Carmarthen Quins, the London Welsh as well as the Newport Gwent Dragons. He returned to former club ahead of the 2011/12 season and since then, he has established himself as a mainstay in the team’s starting lineup, making 60 appearances overall and scoring a whopping 247 points as well.
The player is well known to Davies and he believes his signing will be a welcome addition to the Gloucester Rugby squad.
He stated that he has known Thomas for quite a long time, adding that he is one of the most talented players around in the Welsh game, before going on to mention that he has a tactical kicking game and can bring the best out of the players around him and has one of the highest goal kick conversion rates as well.
Davies also mentioned that he has a lot of experience playing for the Scarlets, both in the Pro 12 as well as in the Heineken Cup and he can be a reliable player for the team and can deliver whenever called upon.
And in spite of clinching his sixth signing for the new season, the Gloucester Rugby boss has mentioned that they are not done yet.
