Gloucester Rugby Secure Rob Cook Signing

Aviva Premiership Rugby Union side Gloucester Rugby have secured the services of Rob Cook from the RFU Championship side the Cornish Pirates and bolstered their ranks ahead of their pre-season training camp in France.

The full back will join up with the side across the Channel during the training camp after agreeing a long term deal with the club. Born in Lincoln, the player who celebrated his 28th birthday last week was a regular for the Cornish Pirates during their Championship campaign last season and was a regular scorer for the side as well.

However, it would be unwise to brand Cook as merely a scorer as he is as prominent in the counter attacking moves of his side as he is in scoring. He has scored 26 tries during his three seasons at the RFU Championship side. Cook was even named in the RFU Championship Dream Team as well in 2011/12 season and his signing is being labeled as a transfer coup by Gloucester Rugby.

Olly Morgan is yet to return to full fitness and with only Martyn Thomas as a specialist in the full back position in the side, Nigel Davies, the new Director of Rugby for the side is extremely pleased with having options at his disposal. According to Davies, Cook has been a standout performer for the Championship side during his time there and he is a welcome addition to the lineup of The Cherry Whites.

And Rob Cook is also looking forward to turning out for the Aviva Premiership side as he looks to secure his long awaited debut in the top flight. He also added that his decision to leave The Pirates was not an easy one but the chance to play for Gloucester Rugby doesn’t come very often and he jumped at the chance.
